Who is MJ Denis?
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist here in Texas. I’m also an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist and an APSATS-Certified Partner Trauma Specialist. My passion is walking alongside individuals and couples on their journey toward inner healing, personal growth, and building joyful, thriving relationships. I bring warmth and empathy into every session, blending my extensive education, professional skills, and years of experience to offer support that’s personalized for your unique needs.
My professional path began a bit differently. I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Secondary English Education from the University of North Florida and spent my early career teaching middle and high school English. It was in those moments of deep connection with my students, helping them overcome challenges, that I discovered my calling to become a counselor.
While pursuing my Master’s in Counseling from St. Edward’s University, I served as a crisis responder on the domestic violence and sexual assault hotline at Hope Alliance, a crisis center where I later worked as a counselor during my practicum. From there, I joined North Austin Urology Clinic (NAU), supporting patients dealing with sexual dysfunction. After completing my degree, I stepped into private practice at Crossroads Counseling Associates. It was there that I was invited to help facilitate Affair Recovery’s Emergency Marital Seminars (EMS) weekends, guiding couples through the painful aftermath of infidelity. This experience profoundly shaped my ability to help clients navigate betrayal trauma, sex addiction, and the complexities of healing relationships.
In 2022, I moved my practice to San Marcos, Texas. Over the years, I've worked with individuals facing a wide range of challenges—from navigating unhealthy boundaries and domestic violence to supporting survivors of sexual abuse, addiction, and infidelity. My approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and deeply understanding of the intricacies of recovery and healing.
I use a range of therapeutic techniques, including Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to help clients move beyond the impact of trauma, grief, anxiety, and depression. I specialize in helping couples and individuals nurture healthy, meaningful intimate connections. As a Partner Trauma Specialist, I’m here to guide you through establishing safety, creating healthy boundaries, processing grief, and healing from betrayal.
I believe the journey toward transformation and joy begins with understanding, compassion, and genuine growth. Together, we can work through life’s struggles, mend past wounds, and build relationships that truly flourish. You’ll find a welcoming, empathetic space with me, where your story is honored and your path to healing is illuminated.
As a new client, you’ll receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) outlining the expected cost of services. While it doesn't cover any unforeseen costs that may arise during our work together, it offers clarity so you can feel confident as we embark on this healing journey.
